IRVING, Texas – North Dakota State wrestler
Devin Wasley has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for the first time in his career, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Wasley picked up three wins at the Davidson Duals on Friday, including the biggest upset of the day in his first match, as he dominated #10 Dillon Bechtold of Bucknell. Wasley used a rideout in the second period to take control, before adding an escape and a takedown to shutout the top-10 wrestler and win 5-0.
Wasley then recorded a 15-0 tech fall in the first period, dominating Dylan Smith in the Davidson dual. Holding four near fall points, Wasley nearly secured a pin before the first period ran out, triggering the tech fall. Wasley wrapped up his day with a 5-2 win over Tucker Hogan of Lock Haven in his finale.
It marks the first time since November 14, 2023 that NDSU has secured the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honor, with Wasley's teammate
Max Petersen the last to receive the honor.
Wasley and the Bison will be back in action on Sunday as NDSU hosts California Baptist 1 p.m. inside the Scheels Center at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex.
