NDSU Wrestling Adds Nick Magee to Coaching Staff

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State wrestling and head coach Obenson Blanc have announced the addition of Nick Magee to the coaching staff on Tuesday.

The former Bison NCAA Division II All-American joins the coaching staff after serving as the North Dakota State wrestling director of alumni relations and the director of the Bison Wrestling Club for over a decade.

"Nick has been an invaluable member of our team for many years going back to his time as a student-athlete at NDSU," said Blanc. "Nick has been a key bridge between our former Bison wrestlers and the current as the Director of Alumni Relations for NDSU Wrestling for many years as well as the leader of our Bison Wrestling Club as the Director/Head Coach."

"Nick is the definition of Bison Pride, and we are excited to have him more involved with our collegiate coaching staff." Said Blanc. "He has always held a tremendous respect from our student-athletes and I cannot wait to see how much more of an impact he will have working with them daily."

In his time with the Bison Wrestling Club, Magee has coached multiple All-American honorees as well as a U20 World Team member, multiple Pan-American Championship medalists, and several other international medalists. As the youth club team director, Magee has overseen seven dual team championships, six state team point championships and 63 individual state champions.

Having wrestled for NDSU and spent the past 10 years serving this program, I'm incredibly proud and honored to continue that journey as a member of the coaching staff," said Magee. Prior to his time back with the Bison, Magee spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Concordia College and coached nine Division III All-Americans and five NCAA West Region champions. During that time, the Cobbers were NWCA National runner-up in 2014, placed third in 2015 and finished fourth in 2016.

His coaching resume also includes time as a NDSU student assistant coach in 2006, before moving to become an assistant coach at Apple Valley High School. Magee helped the Eagles to a 42-2 record and a Minnesota State team title in 2007.

In 2008, Magee became head coach at Fargo North High School. During his four seasons, he coached three state champions, seven state finalists and 21 medal winners. In 2009 and 2010, the Spartans qualified for the North Dakota State Team Competition.

A member of North Dakota State's 2001 NCAA Division II national championship team, Magee compiled a 72-30 record during his career. He placed fourth at the 2004 NCAA tournament to earn All-American honors by finishing fourth. Magee was the 2004 NCAA North Region and North Central Conference champion at 133 pounds. A four-year starter, Magee was a two-time NCAA qualifier. As a senior, in 2005, he was the team captain and MVP of NDSU's first NCAA Division I squad, and posted a 19-6 record. In addition, Magee was also the 2001 and 2002 Northern Plains Senior Freestyle Champion at 60kgs.

Magee earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from NDSU in 2005, and his master's degree in education from St. Catherine's University in 2012. Originally from Hudson, Wis., Nick graduated from Hudson High School in 2000 where he was a WIAA Division 1 state runner-up and also a two-time state medal-winner (1998, 2000).
