Witt Selected for NWCA All-Star Classic
North Dakota State third-year 125 pounder Ezekiel Witt has been selected to compete in the 2026 NWCA All-Star Classic on November 24.
Lined up for the Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving, Witt, who enters the year at #9 in the FloWrestling rankings, will compete in the exhibition against #5 Eddie Ventresca of Virginia Tech.
It will be the second time that Witt and Ventresca face off in their college careers, with the Virginia Tech wrestler edging Witt in sudden victory in the 2026 Southern Scuffle championship match.
Witt is the second Bison to compete in the NWCA All-Star Classic and the first since Feb. 4, 1974, when Lee Petersen lost to Wisconsin's Rich Lawinger, 9-3, in the 150-pound match in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
The 2026 NWCA All-Star Classic will take place at Penn State's Rec Hall in State College, Pennsylvania. Witt will compete in one of 15 matches in the event, which will be streamed live on FloWrestling.
The Return of Aho
UMary head coach Adam Aho makes his return to Fargo and NDSU with his first dual as a head coach against his alma mater. The former Bison helped lead the transition to Division I, posting 66 career wins for the Green and Gold.
Some Newer Faces, Some Returning Foes
After 11 seasons of competing in the Big 12, the Bison will see a different looking schedule in 2026-27, while also retaining some of the rivalries from the past. Fellow programs South Dakota State, Air Force and Northern Colorado also made the jump to the Pac-12 beginning this season and the Bison will continue their yearly battle.
However, NDSU will see new conference rivalries begin with Cal Poly, Cal State Bakersfield, Little Rock, Northern Illinois and Oregon State. The Bison have faced all five in the past, holding a combined 16-12 record against them.
This year's non-conference schedule will see a dual against now ex-Big 12 foe Iowa State, along with Wisconsin in Florida. NDSU will also host Bucknell, Duke and Michigan State at the Scheels Center. The schedule also sees duals against The Citadel and Chattanooga in North Carolina.
Drexler Returns to All-American Weight
After wrestling last season at 157 pounds, Gavin Drexler returns to his All-American weight from the 2025 NCAA Championships. The fifth-year wrestler will once again wrestle at 149 pounds, as the Stratford, Wis. native looks to find his All-American success after missing out on the podium at the NCAA Championships in 2026.
Drexler is the active leader at NDSU with 71 career victories and 795 career match points. He has recorded 26 dual wins for 90 team points and has posted 32 career bonus-point decisions with 23 major decisions.
Wasley Looking to Build Off Strong Finish to 2026
Devin Wasley enters his final season with the Bison off of a strong 2025-26 campaign that saw Wasley complete a NDSU first, becoming the only Bison to win multiple Big 12 Wrestler of the Week awards.
Wasley started the second semester with a splash, taking down #10 Dillon Bechtold of Bucknell at the Davidson Duals. He then closed out the regular season with a win over #5 Bennett Berge of South Dakota State to help NDSU reclaim the Border Bell.
The Hammond, Wis. native then picked up a pair of wins at the Big 12 Championships to earn his first bid to the NCAA Championships.
Looking Ahead
North Dakota State wrestling will turn its focus toward tournament action as the Bison head south to Brookings, South Dakota on Sunday, November 8 for the Daktronics Invitational. The event is set to get underway at 9 a.m. inside the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
