NDSU Wrestling Snags Fourth Straight Big 12 Win at Utah Valley

OREM, Utah – North Dakota State overcame a slow start on Friday night, reeling off five-straight wins and six overall, to defeat Utah Valley 19-15 in Big 12 action inside Lockhart Arena.
 
Utah Valley claimed three of the first four duals, but the Bison overcame the deficit and secured a fourth-straight Big 12 dual victory.
 
After a loss at 125 to start the dual, Tristan Daugherty picked up the first win for the Bison, taking down Geronimo Rivera is sudden victory for a 4-1 win to level the dual score at 3-3.
 
After Utah Valley scored a pair of bonus-point decisions with a major and a tech fall, Gavin Drexler won a battle to start a winning run for the Bison. Drexler outlasted a battle that included a takedown and three reversals to secure an 11-8 win over Mark Takara at 157 pounds.
 
Boeden Greenley would give the Bison another win at 165 pounds, securing the opening takedown and a three-point nearfall. He added a four-point nearfall in the second and then a takedown in the third to secure a 15-3 major decision over Zyon Trujillo.
 
At 174 pounds, Max Magayna would put NDSU in front for the first time on the night, securing a takedown and a 4-2 win over Hudson Rogers, giving NDSU a 13-12 lead. In the next match, #28 Aidan Brenot would secure a third-period takedown for another 4-2 win, defeating Caleb Uhlenhopp to extend the Bison lead.
 
The Bison would secure the dual at 197 pounds, as #33 Devin Wasley defeated Kael Bennie 5-3. After a scoreless first, Wasley recorded a quick escape and takedown for a 4-0 lead and went on to add a riding time point at the end to secure his eighth-straight dual win and improve to 6-0 in Big 12 competition.
 
NDSU would drop the final match at heavyweight to close the dual.
 
The Bison will remain on the road and close out the weekend road trip at Wyoming on Sunday. The dual against the Cowboys is set for a 2 p.m. CT start at the Uniwyo Sports Complex.
