MINNEAPOLIS –
Evan Gustafson connected on a three-run home run in the 11th inning to help push the North Dakota State baseball team past Minnesota, 7-4, on Tuesday night at U.S. Bank Stadium.
After the two teams worked through four scoreless innings to start, Gustafson sparked the Bison (3-17) with a two-run home run to center field to make the score 2-0.
Davis Hamilton answered for Minnesota (15-6) in the fifth with a solo homer to cut the deficit in half, 2-1. Minnesota then grabbed the lead in the seventh, 4-2, with a pair of RBI singles.
Colten Becker responded for NDSU in the eighth inning after he lifted a two-run home run of his own to right field to lock the contest, 4-4. The game then went scoreless for two more innings until Gustafson blasted a three RBI home run in the 11th inning to seal the 7-4 victory.
The Bison totaled six hits as a team, including a season-best three home runs. Gustafson led the way going 2-of-5 at the plate with two runs and a career-best five RBI. He became the first Bison since 2024 to hit two home runs in the same game.
The Bison used a combined seven pitchers and totaled 10 strikeouts.
Garrett Shupe made the start tossing two strikeouts over 2.1 innings.
Zak Szabo (2-1) earned the win with two strikeouts over 1.0 innings and
Hudson Hart picked up his first save as a Bison with one strikeout over the final frame.
NDSU will be back in action to open up a three-game series at South Dakota State on Friday. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
