THIS WEEK
The North Dakota State women's golf team returns to action as they travel to big sky country, competing in the Yellowstone Intercollegiate in Bozeman, Montana on September 21-22.
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
The Yellowstone Intercollegiate is a 54-hole tournament, with the first 36 holes being played on Monday and the final 18 being played on Tuesday.

THE COURSE
Just north of Bozeman, Montana and with the Rocky Mountains as a backdrop, Riverside Country Club provides a scenic round at 4,800 feet of elevation. The par 72 course uses tree-lined fairways and well-placed bunkers to punish the wild golfer. Six holes on the course dogleg to the right, including three of the first four holes, requiring right-handed golfers to test out their fade. Accurate drives are a must throughout the course, with fairway bunkers and ponds a plenty, waiting for an overly aggressive golfer to test it off the tee. Perhaps the most talked about hole on the course is No. 15, a 376-yard par 4 nicknamed "Duck Island". A canal sits long, left, and short of the landing area in the fairway, forcing golfers to be smart with their initial shot. On the approach, golfers must navigate a two-tiered green that likes to hide its pin placements.
THE FIELD
11 teams will compete at the Yellowstone Intercollegiate. Alongside NDSU and hosts Montana State, the tournament field will include Weber State, Idaho State, California State Northridge, Creighton, Southern Utah, California Baptist, Tarleton State, North Dakota, and Montana.
BISON COMPETING
NDSU will have six players competing this week: Hannah Dunk, Norah Roberts, Jeri Lafleche, Avery Bartels and Belle Kongshaug. Bella Leonhart will also compete as an indiviual.
BISON AT THE YELLOWSTONE INTERCOLLEGIATE
The Bison return to Bozeman to compete for the second straight season at Riverside Country Club. In last season's tournament, NDSU finished in a tie for fourth among 14 teams. Avery Bartels placed in a tie for 10th after carding a career-low 68 (-4) in the final round to climb 16 spots on the leaderboard. Norah Roberts finished in a tie for 13th at +2 overall as the other Bison to finish inside the top 20.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bison won for the fifth straight time at the NDSU Invitational, as Avery Bartels took home her first career collegiate victory. Bartels fired rounds of 73 and 74 on her way to a career-low 36-hole score of 147. The Oxbow, North Dakota native opened round two at -3 thanks to a birdie and an eagle, and cruised from there to seal the victory. Norah Roberts finished in a tie for second at +9 overall, while Emma Fitzmorris finished in a tie for fourth at +10 in her collegiate debut.
THE HEAD COACH
Head coach Matt Johnson enters his 18th season at the helm for NDSU. Under Johnson, NDSU has set records for team scoring average in 10 of his 17 seasons. He's coached the Bison to both of their Summit League Championships and NCAA Regional appearances in 2013 and 2018. He also coached Amy Olson (Anderson), who was a three-time All-American and spent ten seasons on the LPGA tour.
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
Oxbow native Avery Bartels grew up playing at Oxbow Country Club, and used that to her advantage to claim her first collegiate victory at the NDSU Fall Invitational last week. Bartels fired rounds of 73 and 74 on her way to the title, starting off round two with a birdie and an eagle before rounding out the day with three pars on the last three holes to secure the victory.
FAMILIAR FOES
The Bison will return to six tournaments this season that they also participated in last year. In the fall portion of the schedule, the Bison once again host the NDSU Invitational, before heading to compete at the Yellowstone Intercollegiate, the Diane Thomason Invitational, and the Clash at Boulder Creek. In the spring, they'll return to the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate hosted by Minnesota and compete at the Bobcat Invitational in Goodyear, Arizona.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Bison will continue their fall portion of the schedule at the Diane Thomason Invitational in Davenport, Iowa on September 28-29.
