2020-21 SEASON (SENIOR): Played in the first six games of the 2020-21 season...Started all six contests at cornerback...Was tied for third on the team with 30 tackles upon leaving the team...Had three pass breakups and a half-tackle for loss...Twice made a season-high seven tackles against Southern Illinois and Illinois State...Selected in the spring as one of six NDSU team captains...Played in 52 consecutive games for the Bison including 22 straight starts.

2019 SEASON (JUNIOR): All-Missouri Valley Football Conference second team...Made all 16 starts at cornerback...NDSU's sixth-leading tackler with 59 total tackles including 39 solo stops...His seven special teams tackles (four kickoff, three punt) tied for second most on the team...Had 10 pass breakups and two interceptions for a Bison defense that led the FCS in fewest passing yards allowed per game (138.6)...MVFC Defensive Player of the Week after making six solo tackles and his first career interception late in the 23-16 win at South Dakota State...Returned his second interception 33 yards against Western Illinois two weeks later...Forced fumble on Northern Iowa's first possession of the third quarter in a four-point game led to a Bison touchdown two plays later...Career-high nine tackles in the non-conference home win over UC Davis...Made seven tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss and one pass breakup in the NCAA championship victory over James Madison.

2018 SEASON (SOPHOMORE): Played all 15 games including two starts against Youngstown State and Missouri State in place of injured cornerback Jalen Allison...Made 28 tackles and had three pass breakups...Season-high six tackles twice in back-to-back road wins against Northern Iowa and Western Illinois...Tied for second on the team with nine special teams tackles, all on kickoff coverage.

2017 SEASON (FRESHMAN): Played in all 15 games as a true freshman...Made his first career start in the national championship game due to injuries at cornerback...Tied a season-high with three tackles and forced a fumble in the FCS title victory over James Madison...Totaled 15 tackles and three pass breakups on the season...Had a three-tackle game against San Diego in the playoffs.

HIGH SCHOOL: 2017 graduate of Lake Gibson High School...Three-year letterman and two-year starter under coaches Keith DeMyer and Doug DeMyer...Played safety, linebacker, wide receiver and returned kicks...Team captain his senior year...Logged 67 tackles with five pass breakups and four interceptions in 2016...Also recovered one fumble and blocked two kicks...Part of a Class 6A state runner-up team that went 9-0 in the regular season and finished 13-1...Seven career interceptions with 10 pass breakups, two forced fumbles and three recoveries...Also competed in track and field.

PERSONAL: Majoring in university studies with minors in psychology and human development and family science...Son of Eugene and Dawn Hayes...Has one sister, Sydney, and one brother, Eugene Jr...Daughter, Leilani, was born in September 2019.
