SACRAMENTO, Calif.--Sacramento State outfielder Josh Levin's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth erased a one-run North Dakota State lead, and darkness after 10 complete innings forced a 4-4 tie in the fourth and final game of the teams' college baseball series Saturday, Feb. 26.
The game will not be completed due to Sacramento State's travel plans for an upcoming game at the University of Hawaii. It was the first baseball game to end in a tie for North Dakota Statesince the 1995 team tied three games.
North Dakota State dipped to 0-7-1 on the season including an 8-1 loss to Sacramento State (5-6-1) in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
NDSU had a 4-0 lead in the late game after Matt Mossey hit a two-run triple in the second inning and Jon Reis' sacrifice fly to center in the third inning scored two--one on the fly and another on an error by the center fielder.
The Hornets pulled within 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single from Pat Keiper and an RBI double from pinch hitter Buddy Morales.
Mossey was NDSU's only player with multiple hits in the game, finishing 2-for-4. Jared Sullivan worked six innings, allowing three runs on four hits, walking four and striking out one.
Sac State used a four-run eighth inning to put the early game out of reach. Charles Magedanz was 2-for-4 to lead the Bison attack.
Brandon Goltz (0-2) pitched six innings in a losing effort, surrendering four runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out seven.
North Dakota State is off for the next week before starting a grueling stretch of road games around the university's spring recess.
NDSU plays a three-game series at Kansas on March 11-13, followed by a two-game set at Kansas State on March 15 and 16, a four-game set at Missouri on March 18-20, and a two-game series at Creighton on March 22 and 23.
