
Scherzer Fans 11 as Missouri Shuts Out North Dakota State

COLUMBIA, Mo.--The Missouri Tigers scored three times in the bottom of the first inning and made the runs hold up in a 10-0 shutout of North Dakota State in college baseball Friday, March 18, at Taylor Stadium.
Missouri (14-4) went ahead 1-0 just two hitters into the first inning when left fielder Bryson LeBlanc led off with a double to right field and first baseman Derek Chambers followed with a single into right.
The Tigers got all three first-inning runs off Bison starter Jared Sullivan, who worked only one-third of an inning before leaving with an elbow injury.
Sullivan dropped to 0-3. He allowed two hits, walked two and struck out none.
threw 4 2/3 innings of relief for North Dakota State (0-13-1). Bushland allowed four runs on seven hits, walked three, and struck out four.
Missouri starter Max Scherzer fanned the first five Bison hitters he faced and finished with 11 strikeouts in seven innings of work for the win.
Scherzer (4-1) limited the Bison to a pair of hits. Center fielder Greg Plecki and shortstop Matt Mossey had consecutive one-out singles in the top of the third.
LeBlanc was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and one RBI to lead the Tigers. Designated hitter Hunter Mense was 2-for-4 and shortstop Gary Arndt was 2-for-4.
Games 2 and 3 of the four-game series will be played as a doubleheader Saturday, March 19. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
