
Western Illinois Completes Four-Game Sweep of Bison

MACOMB, Ill.--Western Illinois completed a four-game college baseball sweep of North Dakota State on Sunday, April 10, at Vince Grady Field. The Leathernecks won 11-2 in the opener and 5-2 in the nightcap.
North Dakota State dropped to 2-23-1 on the season heading into a two-game series at nationally ranked Nebraska on Tuesday, April 12, and Wednesday, April 13.
Western Illinois (9-20) scored three times in the first, fifth and sixth innings of Game 1 to put the Bison away.
NDSU starter Jay Mitchell worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing nine runs (six earned) on 10 hits, walking three and striking out six.
Bison second baseman Jacorian Goldmann was 2-for-3. Kole Zimmerman and Matt Freudenthal each doubled.
Western Illinois first baseman Dan Davy was 3-for-5 with three RBIs, three stolen bases and two runs scored.
NDSU trailed 3-1 heading into the fourth inning of the second game before Reid Arnold led off with a double and Charles Magedanz singled Arnold in to pull the Bison within 3-2.
Davy, who was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and his fourth stolen base in the nightcap, hit run-scoring singles in the fourth and sixth to extend the Leathernecks' lead to 5-2.
Bison middle reliever Derek Ford made his first start in 25 career appearances for North Dakota State. Ford worked all six innings, allowing five runs on seven hits. He walked four and struck out six.
Freudenthal was 3-for-4 with another double and Magedanz was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
