FARGO, N.D.--Right-handers Tyson Bothof and Francisco Torres each threw complete games and South Dakota State hit four home runs to sweep a college baseball doubleheader from North Dakota State on Saturday, April 30.

The Jackrabbits (15-29) won the opener 8-1 and took the nightcap 7-0.

Bothof struck out nine and held the Bison (3-34-1) to three hits in the first game.

NDSU scored its only run in the fifth inning on an infield single by Tim Erickson and three walks. The Bison left 11 men on base in the game.

SDSU left fielder Pat Farrell hit a solo home run in the second inning and a three-run shot in the seventh, and first baseman Greg Geary hit a solo homer in the fifth.

Farrell finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBIs.

Torres made quick work of the Bison in the nightcap after a 53-minute delay between games that was caused by a broken water pipe in left field.

Torres struck out three, walked one, and threw only 77 pitches -- 56 of them for strikes -- while holding the Bison to four singles.

Erickson hit safely again in the second game to extend his hitting streak to seven games -- the longest hitting streak by a Bison player this season.

Farrell was 1-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and Jackrabbit right fielder Nick Adams hit 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

SDSU shortstop Chris Iverson was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer.

Derek Ford was the losing pitcher for NDSU in Game 1. Ford went 6 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on 10 hits, walking two and striking out three.

Jake Laber went five-plus innings in the second game and took the loss. Laber allowed five runs on eight hits, walked four and struck out three.

North Dakota State and South Dakota State are scheduled to wrap up their four-game series with a doubleheader Sunday, May 1, beginning at noon at Newman Outdoor Field.
