The North Dakota State women's soccer team will play its first conference match since 2003 when they travel to former North Central Conference foe South Dakota State on Wednesday, Oct. 4... The SDSU match will be the first of three straight USC meetings for the Bison... Utah Valley State will host NDSU on Saturday, Oct. 7 in Orem, Utah.THE SERIES:
The Bison are 4-1-1 all-time against South Dakota State with two straight shutout wins... Last season NDSU defeated SDSU 1-0 in a double-overtime match in Fargo... NDSU faced Utah Valley State for the first time last season and pulled out a 1-0 win at home... Kelsey Hohol scored the game-winning goal for the Bison in the 70th minute.ABOUT SDSU:
The Jackrabbits (3-7-1) are winless in seven straight games with six straight losses and one tie after starting the season 3-1-0... SDSU was shut out in a pair of matches at the Montana Nike Cup last weekend starting with a 3-0 defeat from Northern Colorado on Friday, Sept. 30, and a 1-0 loss at Montana on Sunday, Oct. 1... Weber State has played both NDSU and SDSU this season, tying both schools at the Bison Invitational Tournament in Fargo early September... The Jacks opened the season with a 3-0 win over future NDSU opponent Northern Iowa.SDSU LINEUP:
Chelsea Goosen leads the squad with 10 points on four goals and two assists... Last year's leading scorer, Kelsey Worcester, is second on the team with seven points off of two goals and three assists... Nicole Lograsso has had the starting assignment in goal the previous two matches after Jenn Davis started the season as keeper... Davis has compiled a 3-4-1 record in 605 minutes, allowing 10 goals while saving 33 shots for a 1.49 goals allowed per game average and a .767 save percentage... Lograsso has played 405 minutes while allowing eight goals and saving 17 shots for a 1.78 goals allowed per game average and a .680 save percentage.ABOUT UTAH VALLEY STATE:
The Wolverines have lost four of their last five matches for a 4-7-1 record... UVSC will play at Utah State on Friday, Oct. 6, before hosting the Bison on Saturday... Montana avenged a 3-0 last season with a 3-0 win against the Bison on Friday, Sept. 30, in the first match of the Montana Nike Cup... NDSU got back on track with an overtime win over Northern Colorado on Sunday, Oct. 1... Lorraine Thompson knocked in the golden goal in the 97th minute... The defense gave up only only shot on goal in the game, which was scooped up by keeper Monica Morgan who recorded her third shutout, the team's fourth, of the season.POINT TAKEN:
Through 11 games, 14 different players have recorded a point for NDSU... Freshman Lorraine Thompson leads the team with nine points off of four goals and an assist... Playing in their first home tournament since 2000, NDSU defeated IUPUI 3-1 and managed a 0-0 tie against defending Big Sky Conference champion Weber State to win the Bison Invitational Tournament on Sept. 8-10... IUPUI placed second in the tournament, Weber State third and South Dakota State fourth... The scoreless match was the fourth ever in NDSU soccer history, the last coming on Nov. 2, 2002, against Minnesota-Duluth... For her role directing the defense, senior Sarah Panzer was named Bison Invitational Tournament MVP... Along with Panzer, Jestina Orlando, Patty Romeo and Jami Rozell were selected to the all-tournament team.AT THE ELLIG:
The loss against Drake on Sept. 17 broke a school record 12-match unbeaten streak at home for the Bison... The previous last home loss came against Nebraska-Omaha on Oct. 5, 2003... In 2005, the team finished the season with a perfect home ledger, going 7-0 and outscoring its opponents 21-2... Since moving to the Ellig Sports Complex, NDSU has compiled a 46-16-4 record... Cuadrado is 14-2-2 all-time at home.SEASON OPENER:
NDSU improved to 8-4 all-time in season openers and 3-1 under Cuadrado after a 5-1 win versus Mary on August 25... Michelle Martinez had three goals while Jestina Orlando and Sarah Panzer also provided scoring strikes to give the Bison a 5-1 win over the Marauders.HATS OFF:
With three goals against the University of Mary, Michelle Martinez moved into a tie for eighth all-time in goals at NDSU. Martinez, who recorded a hat trick last season as well, now has 18 goals in her career. Up next on the list is Carrie Fontana (1997-2000) with 21... Nicole Vanden Bos (1996, 1998-2000) holds the school record with 50.CUADRADO MOVES INTO NO. 2 SPOT:
With the win in the season opener, NDSU head coach Pete Cuadrado moved into second on the school's all-time win list... Cuadrado, in his fourth year at the helm, holds a 32-24-5 record. Matt Townsend (1998-2002) holds the school mark with 55 wins.LAST YEAR:
Posting a school-record tying 10 shutouts, NDSU finished the season at 11-5-1, a year after a 5-11-1 mark without the benefit of a home match.RETURNERS:
The Bison return two of its top scorers in Michelle Martinez and Jestina Orlando... Martinez led the team in goals for the second straight season (8) and Orlando gathered a team high in assists as a freshman with four... Defender Sarah Panzer returns for her senior season after starting 50 of 50 matches during the first three years of her career... Midfielders Patty Romeo and Kelsey Hohol started all 17 matches last season as sophomores.THE UNITED SOCCER CONFERENCE:
The Bison will play in the United Soccer Conference in 2006 as a member of the league's West Division, which includes South Dakota State, Utah Valley State and IPFW... The USC East Division will see Delaware State shift from the west to join Howard University, Longwood University and South Carolina State... IPFW won the inaugural conference championship last season with a 2-1 win over Utah Valley State.MID-CON:
North Dakota State University formally accepted an invitation to become a member of the Mid-Continent Conference on August 31, at a press conference in the NDSU Alumni Center in Fargo, N.D... NDSU will begin league competition in the 2007-08 academic year, and will be immediately eligible to compete for conference championships. The Mid-Con Presidents Council voted unanimously on August 30, to extend an invitation for membership to North Dakota State.Sunday, September 28
