MANHATTAN, Kan.--Kansas State right-hander Brad Hutt struck out 10 in a complete game 7-0 shutout of North Dakota State in college baseball Friday, March 9.

Hutt (4-0) faced only two batters over the minimum, allowing just four singles and one walk as Kansas State improved to 12-2 on the season.

North Dakota State starter Jake Laber (1-1) pitched a hitless and scoreless first four innings despite issuing seven walks and hitting two batters.

K-State scored the only run it needed in the fifth. Cleanup hitter Byron Wiley led off with a single, stole second and scored three batters later on Nate Tenbrink's two-out double.

Laber left after the fifth with his pitch count at 104. He had four strikeouts.

K-State struck again with two outs in the sixth when pinch-hitter Tyler Ruch doubled to the left field corner to score Eddie Vasquez from first. Vasquez beat the relay from shortstop Matt Mossey with a head-first slide around the tag of catcher Gavin Hofer.

Ruch advanced to third on the throw and scored unearned on an infield error the next play to give K-State a 4-0 lead.

The Wildcats scored three more unearned runs in the eighth for the final margin, stringing together four straight two-out singles.

Seven of K-State's nine hits came with two outs, and the Wildcats left 14 runners on base.

Tenbrink, Ruch and Vasquez each finished with two hits for K-State, and Tenbrink had three RBIs.

Hutt held North Dakota State (2-3) to singles by Mossey, Ryan Langlais, Matt Watson and Ricky Hefflinger.

Game 2 of the series is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at Tointon Family Stadium.
