Big Innings Lift Kansas State to 14-2 Win Over North Dakota State

MANHATTAN, Kan.--Kansas State scored 13 runs in its first two at-bats to defeat North Dakota State 14-2 in the second game of a college baseball series Saturday, March 10.
Left-handed starter Ben Hornbeck (1-0) struck out 10 batters in five innings for the win as Kansas State upped its record to 13-2 overall.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning before the Bison (2-4) got on the board twice in the second.
First baseman Kole Zimmerman and third baseman Ryan Langlais led off with back-to-back doubles for the first run, and Langlais moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring one batter later on Kenny Beese's single through the left side.
Singles by Greg Plecki, Matt Watson and Luke Otto later in the game were the only other hits for the Bison.
Four different players each had two hits for K-State, including first baseman Justin Bloxom's 2-for-5 day with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Wildcat third baseman Nate Tenbrink was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs.
North Dakota State starter Jeff Hille (0-2) was the losing pitcher. Hille was responsible for eight runs on four hits in an inning and a third.
Bison reliever Ben Mathiason allowed five runs before getting out of the nine-run second inning, but he bounced back with a hitless third, fourth and fifth.
North Dakota State and Kansas State conclude the series with a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at Tointon Family Stadium.
