MANHATTAN, Kan.--Brett Scott's three-run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning lifted Kansas State to a 6-3 victory over North Dakota State in college baseball Sunday, March 11.
Daniel Dellasega reached on a hit-by-pitch and stole second before a walk to Derek Bunker set up Scott's first career homer off NDSU reliever Seth Foley, who dropped to 1-1 on the season.
Scott also had the game-tying hit with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, coming back from an 0-2 count to single in Adam Muenster from second base.
North Dakota State led 3-1 after Kole Zimmerman's two-run double in the seventh. K-State pinch-hitter Jordan Cruz belted a solo homer in the next half inning to bring the Wildcats (14-2) within a run.
Bison starter Matt Mossey scattered nine hits over 7 1/3 innings in the no-decision. He allowed two earned runs, walked two and struck out eight.
Mossey pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the third with his second strikeout of Nate Tenbrink, who was 4-for-8 with three extra-base hits in the first two games of the series.
The Bison threatened in the fourth with one out. Mossey drew a base on balls and moved to third on Zimmerman's first double off the left-field wall before a walk to Ryan Langlais loaded the bases.
Kansas State lefty Chase Bayuk struck out Luke Otto and popped up Sebastian Miles to end the inning.
Bunker started the K-State fifth with a triple off the glove of a diving Otto in right field, but one out later he was doubled up at home when Greg Plecki caught Drew Biery's fly ball in center field and gunned a one-hop throw to catcher Gavin Hofer.
Tenbrink struck with another extra-base hit in the sixth, however. His one-out triple to right-center set up Eli Rumler's sacrifice fly to make it 1-0 Wildcats.
NDSU rallied with one out in the seventh off left-handed reliever Jason Linn, tying the game at 1 when Plecki reached on Tenbrink's throwing error from third base and scored on Matt Watson's single to left center.
Mossey followed with a single to put runners at first and second before Zimmerman's two-run double off the wall in left-center. Trevor Hurley came on to strike out Langlais and Otto and end the rally.
North Dakota State (2-5) begins a four-game series at Creighton with a single game at 4 p.m. Friday, March 16, at the CU Sports Complex in Omaha, Neb.
