Walk, Wild Pitch Spoil Bison Rally in 5-4 Loss at Texas-Pan American

EDINBURG, Texas--A bases-loaded walk and subsequent wild pitch with two outs in the ninth lifted Texas-Pan American to a 5-4 victory over North Dakota State in Division I independent college baseball Sunday, April 1.
That spoiled a late rally by North Dakota State (3-15), which came back from three runs down to tie the game in the eighth and go ahead in the ninth.
Matt Mossey's two-run triple started the scoring for NDSU and chased Texas-Pan American starter Josh Wymer, who struck out nine in 7 1/3 innings.
Mossey scored on a passed ball one batter later to tie the game, and an RBI double by Sebastian Miles in the ninth put the Bison ahead 4-3.
UTPA (13-22) loaded the bases with three singles off reliever Ryan Langlais (0-1), who started the ninth and was the pitcher of record.
The Broncs scored their first three runs all in the sixth inning off Mossey, the Bison starting pitcher who allowed seven hits over 5 1/3 innings.
Steven Davila (2-4) picked up the win for UTPA. Davila allowed one run on two hits, struck out three and walked two in 1 2/3 innings.
Roly Gonzalez was 4-for-4 with a run scored for Texas-Pan American.
Shannon Ekermans, Billy Gazich and Matt Watson each had singles for North Dakota State.
North Dakota State is scheduled to play at Minnesota on Wednesday, April 4. First pitch is set for 3:05 p.m. at Siebert Field in Minneapolis.
