OMAHA, Neb.--South Dakota State's Matt Bowman struck out 10 and walked one in a complete-game 6-3 victory over North Dakota State in Division I independent college baseball Friday, April 6.

The game was played in sub-40 degree temperatures at the Creighton Sports Complex. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was canceled.

South Dakota State improved to 13-12 overall and North Dakota State slipped to 3-16. The teams will try to close out the series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday, April 7, in Omaha.

Bowman (3-2) got his first six outs of the game by strikeout. After a pair of two-out singles in the first, he did not allow another NDSU hit until center fielder Greg Plecki singled to start the sixth.

The Bison scored all three of their runs in the seventh. Catcher Gavin Hofer led off with a single and outfielder Kole Zimmerman was hit by a pitch before Bowman threw away a sacrifice bunt by outfielder Billy Gazich to load the bases.

Shortstop Matt Mossey followed with a double to plate Hofer and Zimmerman, and Gazich scored on Plecki's RBI ground out the next play.

North Dakota State's pitching staff walked eight batters and four of them scored.

Bison left-hander Jake Laber (2-3) was the losing pitcher. Laber allowed four runs on four hits and threw 127 pitches in six innings, walking six and striking out six.

SDSU had only five hits in the game, all from different players, and six different Jackrabbits each batted in a run.
