Zimmerman Collects Three Hits in Loss at Northern Iowa

WATERLOO, Iowa--Left fielder Kole Zimmerman was 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and stolen base to lead North Dakota State in a 10-1 college baseball loss Saturday at Northern Iowa.
Zimmerman's two-out single in the eighth scored Greg Plecki with NDSU's only run. Plecki was 2-for-3 at the plate and Billy Gazich came off the bench to hit 2-for-2.
North Dakota State (7-21) knocked out 10 base hits in the game, but the Bison also had 10 strikeouts against Northern Iowa's Nick Kirk (3-1), who pitched all nine innings and did not allow a walk.
NDSU has struck out 25 times in two games against Northern Iowa pitching.
The Panthers (16-19) jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings, but UNI scored the only two runs it needed in the first.
Outfielder Dane Embury collected the game-winning hit for the second straight game. Embury's two-out single in the first scored Brett Featherston to give UNI a 2-0 lead.
Embury finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored, and UNI shortstop Brandon Douglas was 2-for-3 with a double, sacrifice fly and three RBIs.
North Dakota State starting pitcher Jeff Hille, a transfer from Northern Iowa, allowed nine runs on 12 hits in six innings of work to drop to 0-7 on the year. Hille struck out three and walked two.
The final game of the teams' three-game series is set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
