Oral Roberts Erupts for 33 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep

TULSA, Okla.--Oral Roberts pounded out 38 hits and scored 33 unanswered runs to sweep North Dakota State 20-2 and 13-0 in a Summit League baseball doubleheader Saturday, April 5.
The Golden Eagles hit 10 doubles on the day and belted three homers in the nightcap to improve to 19-7 overall and 3-0 in the league. NDSU dropped to 6-14 overall and 0-3 in the league.
Gavin Hofer hit an RBI single in the second inning of the first game, and Kole Zimmerman led off the third inning with his second homer of the year for a 2-0 NDSU lead.
But ORU came back with three runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good, and later broke open a 5-2 game with a nine-run sixth inning.
Hofer, Zimmerman and Kenny Beese each had two hits for NDSU. Starting pitcher Matt Bowar allowed five runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings with three walks and one strikeout. Bowar dropped to 0-4 with the loss.
Oral Roberts leadoff hitter Brendan Duffy was 4-for-7 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Ben Petralli and Brian Van Kirk also drove in three runs each. ORU starter Andre Lamontagne struck out three in six innings of work to even his record at 1-1.
Oral Roberts erupted for seven runs in the second inning of Game 2, six more runs in the sixth inning, and pitcher Michael Jarman (5-1) struck out eight in a complete-game effort.
Jarman held the Bison to four singles, but he couldn't get NDSU left fielder Sebastian Miles out. Miles was 3-for-3, and Kyle Harrison had the only other Bison hit.
North Dakota State starter Shannon Ekermans had two strikeouts in five innings of work. He dropped to 1-3 with the loss.
The four-game series concludes with a single nine-inning game beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 6.
