AUBURNDALE, Fla.--North Dakota State scored seven runs in the first inning and cruised to a 19-7 victory over Long Island in college baseball Wednesday, March 17, in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

In their first time at bat since stunning Nebraska-Omaha with a 10-run ninth inning on Tuesday, the Bison (5-7) marched 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first to quickly erase a 1-0 deficit.

NDSU took advantage of two walks and two hit batters to fuel the rally. Third baseman Jay Hartman's two-run triple made it 6-1 and chased Long Island starter Kenny Cedel (0-3) after just eight batters.

Shortstop Max Casper singled through the right side to make it 7-1, and the Bison scored at least once in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

NDSU sent 10 men to the plate and scored four runs in both the fourth and sixth innings. First baseman Zach Wentz hit a three-run home run in the sixth.

Bison starter Mark Schroeder lasted just 1 1/3 innings after giving up three runs on four hits with two walks and one strikeout.

Luke Anderson pitched two innings of relief before Kyle Kingsley (2-0) came on to strike out four batters in the final 5 2/3 innings for the win.

Five NDSU players had at least two hits led by designated hitter Tyler Steen, who was 4-for-6 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Long Island catcher Tyler Jones hit an RBI triple in the first inning and finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs to lead the Blackbirds (1-10).

North Dakota State is scheduled to play UMBC at 10 a.m. ET on Thursday, March 18, at Henley Field in Lakeland, Fla. The Retrievers are 2-6 after back-to-back wins over Long Island and New Jersey Tech.
