FARGO, N.D.--South Dakota State scored six runs in the sixth inning and cruised to an 11-4 victory over North Dakota State in the first of a four-game Summit League baseball series Friday, May 14, at Newman Outdoor Field.

South Dakota State led 2-1 through five innings before sending 11 batters to the plate in the sixth, which was highlighted by back-to-back homers from catcher Zach Briggs and designated hitter Zach Rhodes.

Rhodes was 4-for-5 with three doubles, two RBIs and three runs, and Jesse Sawyer was 3-for-5 with three doubles and two runs for the Jackrabbits, who hit a school-record 11 doubles in the game. Fourteen of SDSU's 16 hits went for extra bases.

The Jackrabbits won their nation-best 21st road game to improve to 31-16 overall and moved into second-place tie in The Summit League with a 14-7 record. NDSU dropped to 20-25 overall and slipped into fifth place in the league at 9-11.

Bison shortstop Max Casper was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and first baseman Zach Wentz was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Casper has hit safely in eight straight games.

NDSU starting pitcher Kyle Kingsley dropped to 4-5 with the loss. Kingsley allowed five runs on eight hits with two walks and one strikeout in five innings.

SDSU starter Stephen Bougher allowed four runs on eight hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in eight innings for the win to up his record to 2-3.

The teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday, May 15, and the final game of the series is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, May 16.
