TUCSON, Ariz. - Sophomore right-hander James Farris pitched a complete-game five-hitter to lead nationally ranked Arizona to an 8-0 win over North Dakota State in college baseball Sunday, Feb. 19, before a crowd of 1,953 at Hi Corbett Field.

Farris, making his first collegiate start after only two appearances last year, walked none and struck out six. Right fielder Robert Refsnyder went 4-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs, a stolen base and two runs scored for Arizona.

Refsnyder's one-out double in the first inning scored Joey Rickard after a leadoff double to give the Wildcats (2-1) the only run they needed.

North Dakota State starter Zach Wentz only allowed a bunt single after that, but was replaced after five complete innings. Wentz walked two and struck out two in the loss.

The Bison (1-2) had a chance to tie in the second when Wentz hit a leadoff single, moved to second on a bunt, and got to third on John Skrbec's infield single, but a fly ball ended the threat.

Farris faced the minimum over the last four innings with NDSU getting only one hit after the fifth. Wes Satzinger had a leadoff single in the seventh but was retired on a ground ball double play.

Max Casper and Blake Turbak had the only other hits for the Bison.

Arizona is ranked from fifth by Baseball America to 20th in the Division I coaches poll.

North Dakota State is scheduled to play a four-game series at Northern Colorado beginning Friday, Feb. 24. It will be the season opener for the Bears, who play in the Great West Conference.
