
Bison Get 30th Victory in Series Opener at IPFW, 8-4

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - North Dakota State reached the 30-win mark for the fourth time in program history with an 8-4 victory over IPFW in Summit League baseball Friday, April 27.
Wes Satzinger drove in two runs and John Straka struck out nine batters in seven innings for the win as NDSU improved to 30-10 overall and 7-2 in The Summit League.
Clay Hathaway was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored for IPFW, which made seven errors in the game. The Mastodons dropped to 12-29 overall and 4-9 in the league.
NDSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Satzinger's two-run single scored Tim Colwell and Zach Wentz, and Satzinger moved up on the throw before scoring on Nick Anderson's single through the right side.
The Mastodons got one run back in the first and went ahead with three in the third. IPFW got a one-out single from Hathaway and back-to-back RBI doubles from Malcolm White and Carter DeBoe to tie it, and DeBoe scored on Shane Trevino's two-out double to go ahead 4-3.
NDSU went back up for good in the fourth when Kyle Kleinendorst led off with a ground-rule double and scored on Colwell's double, which was misplayed in center field allowing Colwell to score for a 5-4 lead.
The Bison started the fifth with a hit-by-pitch and three straight singles from Tyler Steen, Michael Leach and Kleinendorst to go up 7-4, and Nick Colwell's two-out single scored Kleinendorst to make it a four-run game.
Straka (6-2) scattered eight hits in the game, allowing just two singles and his only walk of the game after IPFW's three-run outburst in the third. Closer Kyle Kingsley got six straight outs after a leadoff single in the eighth.
IPFW starter Chuck Weaver (3-5) was responsible for all eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts in seven innings. Nate White pitched two scoreless innings of relief.
North Dakota State and IPFW will play a 12 p.m. ET doubleheader Saturday, April 28, and the series finale is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET on Sunday, April 29.
