LOS ANGELES - Center fielder Tim Colwell extended his hitting streak to 14 games with two singles in North Dakota State's 9-0 baseball loss at Southern California on Saturday, Feb. 22, at Dedeaux Field.

Wes Satzinger and Kyle Kleinendorst collected the only other hits for North Dakota State (0-2). The Bison left the bases loaded in the first inning and had only three other runners pass first base the rest of the way.

USC starter Bob Wheatley (1-0) struck out four, walked two and allowed three hits over six innings to get the win. Trent Keefer (0-1) took the loss in his NDSU debut allowing four runs on eight hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

The Trojans (6-0) got all the runs they needed in the second inning. Jake Hernandez doubled in Jeremy Martinez one out after a leadoff single and USC went ahead 3-0 with RBI singles from Frankie Rios and AJ Ramirez.

Hernandez singled in Martzinez again in the third and Dante Flores belted a two-run homer in the fourth to stake USC to a 6-0 lead. It was 8-0 in the fifth after a two-out, two-run single from Timmy Robinson, who delivered the game winning hit in the ninth inning of Friday's series opener.

Several players made their first appearances in NDSU uniforms with freshman Logan Swann starting as the designated hitter and Luke Lind and Ben Petersen each getting at-bats off the bench. Tanner Schumacher pitched two innings of relief and Reed Pfannenstein tossed the eighth.

NDSU and USC close out the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m. PST.
