WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The North Dakota State Bison baseball team lost to the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, 13-2, Saturday, March 15, in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Winter Haven Park.

LIU Brooklyn's Pete Leonello and Kevin Needham each picked up four hits to lead the BlackBirds (6-7-1), which finished with 16 hits – all of them singles.

NDSU sophomore Andy Wicklund led the Bison with two hits, including a double in the fourth inning. Freshman Danny Palmiscno smacked a RBI single in the eighth that scored senior Blake Turbak from third for his first collegiate hit. Turbak had the other lone RBI for the Bison – driving in senior Tim Colwell from third in the first inning – after Colwell had led off the inning with a double.

Bobby Maxwell pitched five innings for the Blackbirds and improved his record to 2-2 after allowing only two hits and one unearned run. Matt McCormick threw two innings of scoreless relief and Chance Fuglishstahler recorded a scoreless ninth for LIU Brooklyn.

Bison starter Trent Keefer picked up the loss for NDSU – His record is now 1-2. Redshirt freshmen Sean Terres and Tanner Schumacher pitched in relief for the Bison, while Zach Mayo struck out three and didn't allow a hit in his two innings out of the bullpen.

The Bison continue play in the RussMat Central Florida Invitational at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. CT in Lakeland, Fla., at Henley Field against the Maine Black Bears.
