
Western Illinois Posts Pair of Walk-Off Wins Over North Dakota State

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois swept a Summit League baseball doubleheader with a pair of walk-off wins over North Dakota State 4-3 and 9-8 on Sunday, March 30, at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium.
Tanner Glore lifted a sacrifice fly to score Zack Burling in the seventh inning of the first game and the Fighting Leathernecks (5-16, 3-1 Summit) strung together four straight singles with two outs in the ninth to win the nightcap.
North Dakota State (7-13, 0-4) has lost four one-run games on its five-game losing streak. The Bison are at Minnesota for a single game Tuesday, April 1, before a Summit League doubleheader at South Dakota State on Friday, April 4.
NDSU trailed 3-1 in the opener before tying the game in the sixth. Wes Satzinger and Kyle Kleinendorst reached on a hit-by-pitch and walk, moved up on Blake Turbak's sac bunt, and scored on an infield error.
Burling led off the Western Illinois seventh with a walk, moved up on a sac bunt, and took third on a double steal after an intentional walk to Neil DeCook. Glore flied out to shallow right field for the second out and Turbak's throw to get Burling was on time but dropped at the plate.
Altavilla was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored in the opener, and Tim Colwell was 2-for-4. Starter Parker Trewin allowed two earned runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings and reliever Trevor Jaunich dropped to 1-1 with the loss.
Nick Milligan (1-0) pitched the final two innings and got the win for Western Illinois. Chris Tschida was 2-for-3 and DeCook had a pair of RBIs.
NDSU couldn't hold on to a 7-5 lead in the nightcap after erupting for five runs in the fifth. Satzinger hit a two-run single, and Kleinendorst and Altavilla each had RBI hits during the inning.
Turbak added an RBI single in the seventh but Western Illinois scored in each of its final four at-bats for the win. The Leathernecks were down to their last out after a ground ball and line out to start the ninth, but the 7-8-9 hitters each singled before Burling laced the game-winner into right-center field.
Altavilla was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Satzinger was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Turbak was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Kevin Folman allowed two runs on six hits in the final 1 2/3 innings and dropped to 0-2 with the loss.
Western Illinois used seven pitchers in the second game with Tyler Owings (1-0) picking up the win after a scoreless ninth. Burling was 4-for-6 and Tschida was 4-for-4 as the Leathernecks pounded out 17 hits altogether.
