GREELEY, Colo. – The North Dakota State baseball team closed out a four-game series with another doubleheader split at Northern Colorado on Sunday, March 9, winning the first game 7-3 and dropping the second game 8-6 at sunny Jackson Field.

Wes Satzinger and Luke Lind each hit two-run doubles for NDSU (4-6) in the opener and Jay Flaa struck out four batters in three scoreless innings for his second save of the year in relief of starter Parker Trewin, who surrendered two earned runs in four innings to improve to 1-1.

Kyle Kleinendorst scored twice for NDSU after hitting triples in the first and seventh innings and tying the school record of two triples. He is the ninth player in team history to achieve the feat.

NDSU went ahead for good with a three-run fifth inning. A walk to Andy Wicklund and a two-out single by Jon Hechtner set up Satzinger's double, and Satzinger scored on an infield error two batters later to give the Bison a 4-2 lead.

NDSU's Tim Colwell hit 4-for-5 with a triple and three runs scored in the nightcap. Colwell's RBI single and Nick Altavilla's two-out, two-run double in the fifth gave the Bison a 6-2 lead before UNC (4-12) erupted for six runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Kevin Folman pitched 2 2/3 innings in his first collegiate start and Brian VanderWoude, the fifth of seven NDSU pitchers, dropped to 0-1 with the loss allowing two runs on two hits. Freshman outfielder Ben Petersen got his first two college hits going 2-for-4 with a run for the Bison.

North Dakota State (4-6) travels to the Winter Haven, Fla., area to play six games in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational over spring break beginning Friday, March 14, against Evansville.
