FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team (10-17, 2-7 Summit) split a Summit League doubleheader against Western Illinois (11-21, 6-5 Summit) Saturday, April 19, at Newman Outdoor Field, dropping game one, 6-5, in eight innings and winning the second contest, 4-2.
The Bison and Leathernecks are slated to close out the four-game series Sunday, April 20, with a single game at 1 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field.
Parker Trewin pitched his first complete game of the season in the Bison's 4-2 victory in the second contest. He went the full seven innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs while striking out five and walking just one WIU batter. The Ramsey, Minn., native improved his season record to 3-1 overall with the win.
Jon Hechtner, Wes Satzinger, and Ben Petersen each collected an RBI while Aiden Hook went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate in game two for NDSU.
Western Illinois' John White took the loss on the mound, pitching four innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits.
In game one, the Bison were led offensively by Satzinger, who went a flawless 3-for-3 in the batter's box with an RBI.

The Bison jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second game after plating runs in the second and third innings. Petersen scored on a WIU wild pitch in the second and doubled home Kyle Kleinendorst in the third for the opening pair of NDSU runs.
The Leathernecks trimmed the lead to 2-1 after scoring a run in the fourth, but the Bison answered in the bottom-half of the inning and increased their advantage to 3-1 after Michael Leach scored on a fielder's choice from Hechtner.
Western Illinois again cut the Bison lead to one, 3-2, with a run in the fifth, but NDSU retired five of the final seven Leatherneck hitters and added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to secure the 4-2 win and doubleheader split.
In game one, NDSU took an early 1-0 lead after Blake Turbak scored on a fielder's choice by Kleinendorst.
Western Illinois answered and put three runs on the board in the top of the third to gain a 3-1 lead. The Bison responded in the bottom-half of the inning, plating a run on Satzinger's single to cut the Leatherneck lead to 3-2.
WIU scored another run in the fourth to increase its advantage to 4-2, but North Dakota State knotted the contest at four after a Leach ground out scored Petersen and a Tim Colwell single plated John Skrbec.
