MINNEAPOLIS – Former North Dakota State pole vaulter Leslie Brost stole the show on the first day of the Jack Johnson Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota on Friday evening. The six-time NCAA Championships qualifier cleared a lifetime-best height of 14-05.50 (4.41m) to win the event – a mark that puts her at No. 18 in the world this year.
Brost, who competes for the Twin Cities Track Club, is sixth among all American women this year in the pole vault. She competed for NDSU from 2008-13. Her previous personal-best height was 14-03.25 (4.35m) for fourth place at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Current Bison junior Anna Benke placed fifth in the pole vault Friday with a mark of 12-08.00 (3.86m). Freshman Lauren Gietzen cleared 11-08.00 (3.56m) for 12th place. Benke is No. 2 on the Summit League performance list this season.
Redshirt freshman Deidre Hahn was NDSU's top finisher in the 200m dash, crossing the line in 25.60 for 11th place. Freshman Amanda Levin clocked 26.07 to finish 24th, and Alexis Woods ran 26.34 to take 31st.
Sophomore Allie Lahren placed 12th in the long jump with a mark of 16-11.25 (5.16m).
Freshman Jaelin Beachy topped a group of Bison multi-event women throwing the shot put on Friday, recording a mark of 32-10.25 (10.01m).
The majority of events will be contested tomorrow inside the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse.
