Teschuk Runs NCAA’s Top Mile Time, Destroys School Record at Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS – North Dakota State junior Erin Teschuk ran the fastest mile in the NCAA this season and cut more than six seconds off her school record in the event on Saturday at the Jack Johnson Classic.
Teschuk won the mile in 4:34.78, setting the meet record and University of Minnesota Fieldhouse record in the process. Due to being run on a 200-meter flat track, her time will convert to 4:32.09 for the top spot on the NCAA performance list.
As of Saturday, Teschuk's time makes her the eighth-fastest woman in the world this year in the mile. Her previous best in the event was 4:41.19 on Jan. 17 of this season.
Teschuk wasn't the only Bison woman to break a school record on Saturday. Senior thrower Emily Lesser extended her shot put school record with a toss of 51-07.25 (15.73m) for first place in the meet. Lesser's mark ranks 30th in the nation based on marks entering the weekend.
NDSU senior Maddie Van Beek cut 10 seconds off her previous personal-best on her way to a victory in the 3,000m, finishing in 9:32.30 to rank second in NDSU history. Based on the performance list entering the weekend, Van Beek moves up to No. 27 in the country in the event.
Sophomore Amy Andrushko was the runner-up in the 800m in 2:12.41. That time ranks her just inside the top 50 in Division I this season. Sophomore Jenny Guibert finished seventh in 2:15.35.
Redshirt freshman Courtney Pasiowitz placed third in the shot put, and Katelyn Weimerskirch threw 47-03.75 (14.42m) to take fifth in the meet and rank 10th in NDSU history.
In the weight throw, Weimerskirch placed third and Lesser placed fifth. Weimerskirch threw 60-5 (18.41m) – only one inch shy of her personal-best.
Bison sophomore Morgan Milbrath took sixth in the 400m in 56.61. The Minot, N.D., native is ranked second in The Summit League this season in the event.
Former Bison All-American Ashley Tingelstad won the 400m in 54.63, setting a new meet record.
The Bison will host the Thundering Herd Classic on Feb. 6-7 at the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility.
