Bison Drop Finale at Arizona Wednesday, 11-1

TUCSON, Ariz. – The North Dakota State baseball team (0-5) dropped the final game of a two-game set at Arizona (5-0) on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Hi Corbett Field, 11-1.
Danny Regan, Taylor Sanders and Ben Petersen collected the only hits of the game for the Bison, with Sanders driving in the lone run.
Arizona starter Xavier Borde (1-0) struck out four, walked one and allowed only three hits over six-and-two thirds innings to earn the win. David Ernst (0-2) suffered the loss for NDSU after allowing six earned runs on five hits with two walks and one strikeout.
The Wildcats plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning to race out to a 4-0 advantage and never looked back. Kevin Newman singled home Scott Kingery after a leadoff double and Arizona went ahead 2-0 on a RBI triple from Tayler Krause. The Wildcats scored the final pair of runs in the inning on a sacrifice fly from Riley Moore and a fielder's choice.
The Arizona lead jumped to 7-0 in the third after a RBI single from Bobby Dalbec, a RBI ground out from JJ MatiJevic, and a fielding error by the Bison.
The Bison scored their lone run of the game in the top of the ninth. Regan led off the inning with a triple to right center and Sanders scored him on a RBI ground out.
North Dakota State returns to action on Friday, Feb. 27, when it travels to Port Charlotte, Fla., to face Kansas in the opening game of the Snowbird Baseball Classic. First pitch is slated for 10:30 a.m. ET (9:30 a.m. CT).
