FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team won four of the five events contested on the first day of the Summit League Indoor Championships on Friday, building a 30-point lead in the team race heading into the final day. NDSU is hosting the league meet inside the Shelly Ellig Track & Field Facility for the first time.
Lexy Boschee (pentathlon), Katelyn Weimerskirch (weight throw) and Maddie Van Beek (3,000m) captured individual event titles for the Bison, and NDSU capped the day by defending its crown in the distance medley relay.
NDSU tops the team standings with 77 points through five events. South Dakota is in second with 47 points, and South Dakota State is third with 38.
Weimerskirch posted the most impressive performance of the day, setting a new NDSU school record, a facility record and a Summit League Championships record on her way to winning the weight throw. Her mark of 64-09.75 (19.75m) was a lifetime best by over two and a half feet, and she beat the rest of the field by more than three feet.
It was a dominant performance by the Bison women in the weight throw, sweeping the top four places with senior Emily Lesser and redshirt freshmen Courtney Pasiowitz and Jordyn Thornton placing second, third and fourth, respectively. Lesser ranks second in school history, and Pasiowitz is fifth with her new personal-best of 60-09.25 (18.52m).
Boschee scored a new lifetime-best 3,690 points on her way to the pentathlon title, ranking fourth on the NDSU all-time list. She posted the top marks in three of the five pentathlon events, including a PR of 8.99 in the 60m hurdles and matching her PR of 5-08.00 (1.73m) in the high jump.
Van Beek ran away with her second career Summit League title in the 3,000m, winning in 9:31.87 for a new Summit League Championships record and facility record.
NDSU took first place in the distance medley relay for the third straight year, with the team of Jenny Guibert, Amy Andrushko, Ashlynn Simon and Erin Teschuk finishing in 12:03.54. Teschuk has anchored all three winning DMR teams in NDSU's current win streak.
The Bison women placed third, fourth and fifth behind Boschee in the pentathlon with Rose Jackson, Amanda Levin and Ann Govig. Levin's score of 3,548 points ranks her eighth in school history as a true freshman.
