The longest-running streak of championships at North Dakota State University will attempt to add one more this week, as the Bison women's track & field team hosts the 2015 Summit League Indoor Championships on Feb. 27-28.
The NDSU women enter this weekend's conference meet with seven straight indoor team titles and 14 straight championships overall, including outdoor.
Only one school in Summit League history has won more than three consecutive league titles in women's indoor track & field. This weekend, the Bison women will go after No. 8.
Since joining The Summit League for the 2007-08 season, the Bison have never walked away from the conference meet without a first-place trophy.
Multi-events action will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday inside the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility on campus. Running events start at 3 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The Bison women will go after their eighth title with a team that looks different from last year, with the losses of Antoinette Goodman, Ashley Tingelstad, and Paige Stratioti – all multiple-time league champions and All-Americans.
NDSU returns two big scorers from last year's meet in senior thrower Emily Lesser and senior distance runner Maddie Van Beek. Lesser won league titles in the weight throw and shot put last season, while Van Beek swept the mile, 3,000m, and 5,000m titles to earn Championship MVP honors.
To defend its string of team championships, the Bison women will need to dominate the throwing events. They enter with four of the top five marks in the league in both the weight throw and shot put, with sophomore Katelyn Weimerskirch topping the list in the weight and Lesser at No. 1 in the shot.
NDSU could also need a big weekend from sophomore Rose Jackson, who enters the meet ranked in the top five of The Summit League in five different events – the 60m dash, 200m dash, 60m hurdles, long jump and pentathlon.
National title contender Erin Teschuk should also play a big role in the meet for the Bison. The junior from Winnipeg, Manitoba, is ranked fourth nationally in the mile and fifth in the 3,000m.
GoBison.com will have complete updates at the conclusion of each day of competition. Live updates on placing and team scoring can be found on Twitter at @NDSUTrackField.
