Fort Wayne Shuts Out NDSU Baseball Saturday, 8-0

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Fort Wayne pitcher Ryan Wells struck out 11 and threw a complete game shutout, helping the Mastodons (13-13, 4-7 Summit League) to an 8-0 win over the North Dakota State University baseball team (6-18, 2-9 Summit League) Saturday, April 4, in the second game of a three-game series at Mastodon Field.
The third and final contest of the series is slated for Sunday, April 5, at 1 p.m. ET (noon CT).
Brayden Resch went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Bison in the batter's box, while John Skrbec collected his team-high seventh double in the game. Andy Wicklund and JT Core also each posted a hit in the contest.
Right-handed pitcher Reed Pfannenstein (0-4) suffered the loss for the Bison after allowing seven earned runs on eight hits in four-and two-thirds innings of work.
North Dakota State was held to just five hits in the game.
The Mastodons scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Brandon Soat plated the first two runs of the frame for Fort Wayne on a two-out, two RBI single through the right side, before Evan VanSumeren added two more runs in the inning with a two-out double to right-center.
Fort Wayne added another run in the third on a Greg Kaiser one-out RBI single, before scoring three more in the fifth on Kaiser's two-out, three-run home run to left field.
Kaiser hit a game-best 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI to lead Fort Wayne.
Wells moved to 3-4 overall with the shutout win.
