AUSTIN, Texas – The North Dakota State women's track & field team added one more qualifier to the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships on Saturday evening at the West Preliminary Rounds hosted by Texas. Junior Sierra Rosenau captured a spot at the national meet in the javelin, placing eighth with a throw of 157-6 (48.01m).
Rosenau's bid gives the Bison women three qualifiers to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, which will be held June 10-13 in Eugene, Ore., at historic Hayward Field. Women's javelin competition is scheduled for Thursday, June 11, at 7:30 p.m. (CT) / 5:30 p.m. (PT).
The Carrington, N.D., native becomes the first NDSU woman to qualify for the Division I national meet in a throwing event.
Senior Emily Lesser missed a chance to join Rosenau at the NCAA Championships in the shot put by only one place and four centimeters, throwing 51-09.00 (15.77m) to finish in 13th place. Three women surpassed Lesser on their third and final attempts to bump her from 10 to 13th in the standings, with the top 12 advancing to Eugene.
Lesser concludes her illustrious collegiate career as the NDSU record holder in the outdoor shot put, indoor shot put, and hammer throw. She also ranks No. 2 all-time at NDSU in the discus and indoor weight throw.
Morgan Milbrath, Melissa Kitching, Ashley Heinze and Deidre Hahn ran 3:38.05 for 15th place in the 4x400m relay – an improvement of five spots over their No. 20 pre-meet ranking. The time was a season-best by 1.71 seconds, and the quartet now stands as the fourth-fastest in school history.
Sophomore Courtney Pasiowitz posted a throw of 48-03.25 (14.71m) for 33rd place in the shot put. Freshman Alyssa Olin made her NCAA Prelims debut in the javelin, finishing 45th with a throw of 134-11 (41.13m).
In addition to Rosenau, NDSU will be represented by Maddie Van Beek and Erin Teschuk in the 3,000m steeplechase at the NCAA Championships on June 11.
