Competition Format
Twenty-four women and relay teams qualified to the NCAA Outdoor Championships through the NCAA Preliminary Rounds format. In the steeplechase, two rounds will be contested, a semifinal and a final. The semifinal will consist of two heats with 12 competitors in each. The top five from each heat plus the next two fastest times (12 total) will advance to the final.
In the javelin, a semifinal and final round will be contested on the same day. Each competitor is allowed three attempts in the semifinal round. The nine best marks will advance to the final round for three more attempts.
All-America Honors
The top eight finishers in all events will earn first team All-American honors, places 9 through 16 will be named second team All-Americans, and all other national meet competitors will receive honorable mention All-American status.
Top Placer
Laura Hermanson is the highest national-meet finisher in NDSU's Division I history, taking second place in the 800 meters at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
First Time
Each of the three Bison women will be making their first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Triple Crown
Teschuk is the lone Bison woman to ever qualify for the NCAA Division I Championships in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.
Breaking Ground
Rosenau (Carrington, N.D.) is the first NDSU woman to qualify for the NCAA Division I Championships in a throwing event.
High Level
Nearly 600 Division I women competed in the steeplechase this year. NDSU's Erin Teschuk and Maddie Van Beek both rank among the top 16 in the country, meaning two Bison are in the nation's top three percent.
Impressive Numbers
There were eight Big Ten schools that had fewer entries at the NCAA Prelims than the Bison women. Only three women's teams outside the Power 5 conferences sent at least 16 entries to the NCAA Prelims – NDSU, Colorado State and UCF.
