Ernst Signs With Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks

FARGO, N.D. – Former North Dakota State pitcher David Ernst signed a professional contract with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, the American Association club announced Wednesday, July 8.
Ernst, a right-hander drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2011 out of Fargo South High School, made a school-record 53 starts for the Bison from 2012-15. His 159 career strikeouts were the third most in NDSU's Division I history.
Ernst was named to the All-Summit League second team his junior year when he went 5-5 with a 3.60 ERA and led the Bison to their first league title. He pitched 7 1/3 innings with six strikeouts in a 2-1 loss to No. 1 seed Oregon State in the NCAA regional.
Ernst is the 19th Bison player to join the RedHawks and the 15th to start his professional career with the team. Former NDSU battery mate Michael Leach signed with the club in May.
