Throwers, Hurdlers Lead NDSU Men at Air Force

USAF Academy, Colo. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team finished third at the Air Force Team Challenge on Friday evening. The host Falcons won with 149 points, Wichita State came in second with 133, and the Bison were third with 109 points.
NDSU junior Alex Renner won the shot put with a toss of 60-08.00 (18.49m), leading the Bison men to a 1-3-4-5-6 finish in the shot put.
Sophomore Payton Otterdahl (58-04.75 / 17.80m) and senior Brandt Berghuis (58-00.50 / 17.69m) both posted indoor personal-bests in the shot put to finish third and fourth, respectively, in the meet. They rank second and third in NDSU history in the event behind Renner.
School record holder Conrad Schwarzkopf finished fourth in the weight throw on Friday, throwing 63-00.75 (19.22m). Otterdahl also recorded a personal-best of 61-00.75 (18.61m) in the weight throw, moving up to fifth in NDSU history.
Bison sophomore Landon Jochim ran an indoor 400m personal-best of 48.62 to win the event. The Bismarck, N.D., native ranks ninth in NDSU history. Sophomore Aron Klos ran a personal-best of his own for fifth place in 49.76, and freshman Jacob Richter finished in 49.83 for seventh.
Three Bison men recorded career-best times in the 60m hurdles.
NDSU senior Jerome Begin clocked a personal-best of 8.21 seconds in the 60m hurdles prelims, then led a 2-3-5 finish by the NDSU men in the final. Begin was the runner-up in 8.26 seconds, and senior Colin Paarmann (8.27) and redshirt freshman Ryan Enerson (8.35) both posted personal-best times.
Freshman sprinter Karter Gorney (Minot, N.D.) placed third in the 60m dash, running 7.02 seconds for the second-fastest time of his season.
Enerson cleared 6-04.75 (1.95m) for fourth place in the high jump. Matt Jennings took fifth in the 800m in 1:55.77.
NDSU junior Grant Mjelstad was seventh in the pole vault, clearing 16-00.75 (4.90m). Beau Kashmark took fifth in both the high jump and triple jump.
Sophomore Steffan Stroh surpassed his previous best mark in the weight throw by two feet, throwing 57-09.00 (17.60m).
