AZUSA, Calif. – Juniors Rose Jackson and Katelyn Weimerskirch headlined the efforts of the North Dakota State women's track & field team at a series of meets in southern California on Thursday.
Jackson finished 11th in the California Invitational heptathlon in Azusa, Calif., with a new personal-best score of 5,269 points, ranking her fourth all-time at NDSU. The Willmar, Minn., native ran a new 800m best of 2:15.86 in the seventh and final event.
NDSU senior Ann Govig recorded a personal-best of her own in the heptathlon with 4,771 points, surpassing her previous high score by 157 points and ranking her ninth in NDSU history. Govig closed the heptathlon with a career-best 113-11 (34.73m) in the javelin, then ran an outdoor PR of 2:16.37 in the 800m.
Katelyn Weimerskirch won the hammer throw and took runner-up honors in the discus at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate meet hosted by Long Beach State. In the hammer, Weimerskirch threw 197-5 (60.17m) for the second-best mark of her career. She posted a mark of 168-5 (51.34m) in the discus for second place, coming within five feet of her own school record.
Freshman Maddy Nilles moved up to No. 2 on the NDSU all-time list in the discus, throwing 167-1 (50.94m) at Long Beach State for third place in the meet.
Junior Courtney Pasiowitz took third for the Bison in the hammer, and sophomore Hannah Frost finished fourth. Nilles posted her fourth straight hammer throw PR of 175-1 (53.38m) for ninth place.
Sophomore Kelsey Laufenberg placed fifth in the shot put at 47-03.75 (14.42m), and she also recorded a personal-best mark of 166-11 (50.88m) in the hammer throw.
Junior Taylor Janssen opened competition for the Bison women at the Mt. SAC Relays, running 10:43.57 in the 3,000m steeplechase.
NDSU will continue action on Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays, Bryan Clay Invitational and Beach Invitational.
