Bison Men Win 7 Event Titles, Sweep Throwing Events at Lyle Hokanson Classic

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team captured seven event titles, including all three throwing events on Saturday, at the Lyle Hokanson Classic on the NDSU campus.
After Conrad Schwarzkopf won the hammer throw on Friday afternoon, the Bison men completed the sweep of the throwing event titles with three more wins on Saturday.
Senior Brandt Berghuis became only the second man in NDSU history to top the 60-foot mark in the shot put, throwing 60-01.25 (18.32m) for the win. Schwarzkopf registered a huge personal-best of his own in the shot put, taking runner-up honors with a mark of 59-09.75 (18.23m) to move up to No. 3 in NDSU history.
Both Berghuis and Schwarzkopf moved into the top 40 in the NCAA this season in the shot put.
Sophomore Steffan Stroh took first place in the discus with a mark of 175-1 (53.37m) – the second-best discus performance of his career. Bison senior Brock Larson won the javelin, throwing 200-11 (61.24m) for the second-best mark of his career.
In the shot put, sophomore Payton Otterdahl (57-09.50 / 17.61m) and Stroh (57-03.75 / 17.47m) both also registered season-bests and potential NCAA Prelims qualifying marks. Berghuis, Schwarzkopf, Otterdahl and Stroh swept the top four places.
NDSU sophomore Brant Gilbertson won the 800m in 1:55.72, and Dalton Herding took second in 1:55.75 for a 1-2 Bison finish.
The NDSU quartet of Colin Paarmann, Parker McKittrick, Karter Gorney and Landon Jochim claimed the 4x100m relay title in 41.95.
Competing unattached, NDSU junior Matt Neururer scored a personal-best 6,588 points to win the decathlon. Also competing unattached, Bison freshman Kelle'mon Hinton took the triple jump crown with a leap of 46-02.75 (14.09m).
Senior Beau Kashmark cleared 6-06.00 (1.98m) in the high jump for second place.
Freshman Jacob Richter was the runner-up in the 400m dash in 49.91. Redshirt freshman Camron Roehl raced to a second-place finish in the 1500m with a PR of 3:56.50. Aron Klos clocked 22.18 seconds in the 200m dash to take third.
The Bison will travel to Des Moines, Iowa, next weekend to compete at the Drake Relays.
