The North Dakota State University women's track & field team will travel to Iowa this weekend to compete in the Drake Relays and Kip Janvrin Open.
The 107th Drake Relays will be held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines on Friday, Apr. 29, and Saturday, Apr. 30. The Kip Janvrin Open will be hosted by Simpson College in nearby Indianola, Iowa, on Friday.
The Drake Relays will feature some of the nation's top track & field competition this weekend, as well as providing the Bison an opportunity to run relay events such as the 4x200m, 4x800m, 1600m medley, and distance medley.
Bison women competing in individual track events at the Drake Relays will include Amy Andrushko (800m), Morgan Milbrath (400m hurdles), Melissa Kitching (400m hurdles) and Taylor Janssen (3000m steeplechase). Brittany Stangl and Anna Benke are scheduled to take part in the pole vault, and NDSU will have its throwers competing in the four throwing events.
The NDSU women are currently ranked in the top 10 nationally in five event groups: No. 2 in the shot put and hammer throw, No. 4 in the heptathlon, and No. 7 in the discus and javelin. Four Bison women have thrown over 49 feet in the shot put this season, while no other school in the country has four women over 45 feet.
The Bison will return home to host the NDSU Tune-Up meet on Friday, May 6, as well as competing at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls, S.D.
