Bison Women Perform Well Despite Tough Elements at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – The North Dakota State women's track & field team posted several strong performances on a cold and rainy Saturday at the final day of the 2016 Drake Relays.
Junior Taylor Janssen (Moorhead, Minn.) ran a personal-best 10:34.86 in the 3,000m steeplechase, earning a fifth-place finish. Janssen ranks fifth all-time at NDSU in the event after cutting more than four seconds off her previous best.
Bison junior Anna Benke cleared an outdoor personal-best of 13-03.50 (4.05m) in the pole vault to tie for No. 2 on the school's all-time performance list. Senior Brittany Stangl vaulted 12-09.50 (3.90m) Saturday.
NDSU's Katelyn Weimerskirch (185-8 / 56.60m) and Hannah Frost (182-0 / 55.48m) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the hammer throw, posting strong marks despite the harsh conditions.
Rose Jackson, Morgan Milbrath, Melissa Kitching and Amy Andrushko teamed up to finish fourth in the 1600m medley, running 3:56.22 to stand as the seventh-fastest in NDSU history.
Junior Courtney Pasiowitz was NDSU's top finisher in the shot put, placing seventh at 50-09.25 (15.47m). Freshman Shelby Gunnells, a Solon, Iowa, native, took 16th with a mark of 46-08.00 (14.22m).
The Bison will host the NDSU Tune-Up meet in Fargo on Friday, May 6, as well as competing at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls next weekend.
