Bison Men Claim 7th Consecutive Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Title

VERMILLION, S.D. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team cruised to its seventh consecutive Summit League outdoor team championship on Saturday at the Lillibridge Track Complex, recording the second-highest point total in the last decade.
NDSU won with 266 points, and South Dakota finished second with 196 points. The Bison have now won eight of The Summit League's nine outdoor titles since they joined the league.
Bison senior Brandt Berghuis earned the league's Championships Field MVP award after placing second in the hammer throw, third in the shot put and fourth in the discus. NDSU head coach Don Larson was named the Summit League Coach of the Year.
Sophomore Payton Otterdahl won his first career Summit League title, taking the discus championship with a mark of 171-6 (52.27m). Steffan Stroh was the runner-up in the discus at 166-2 (50.64m), and Berghuis threw a career-best 160-0 (48.78m) for fourth.
NDSU scored big in the 110m hurdles with four athletes running wind-aided career-best times to finish second, third, sixth and seventh. Senior Jerome Begin clocked 13.78 seconds for a runner-up finish – well under the NDSU school record of 13.99 seconds had the time not been wind-aided. Parker McKittrick ran a personal-best 14.05 for third, Colin Paarmann was sixth in 14.74, and Ryan Enerson took seventh in 14.80 seconds.
The Bison men finished 2-3-4 in the 400m hurdles with Aron Klos (52.52), Matt Bedard (52.76) and Begin (53.35). Sophomore Landon Jochim earned another All-Summit League honor in the 400m dash, clocking 47.89 for third place.
Bedard, Klos, Dalton Herding and Jochim earned a runner-up finish in the 4x400m relay to cap the meet.
NDSU placed three in the 1500m, with Matt Jennings taking fourth, Camron Roehl placing fifth and Brant Gilbertson finishing sixth.
Paarmann registered an outdoor personal-best of 48-06.25 (14.79m) in the triple jump to place fourth. He concluded his NDSU career as a 25-time Summit League placewinner.
Jonah Warwick ran 1:54.64 to take fifth in the 800m, and Herding was sixth in 1:55.32.
Senior Brock Larson came back from his decathlon title to place seventh in the pole vault on Saturday, clearing 15-07.25 (4.76m). Freshman sprinter Karter Gorney ran 10.94 seconds in the 100m for seventh place.
Over the course of the meet, the Bison men scored 117 of a possible 156 team points in the four throwing events, meaning all other schools combined for just 39 points in the throws.
NDSU will compete at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in Lawrence, Kan., on May 26-28.
