The North Dakota State men's track & field team has qualified 10 student-athletes with a total of 17 entries to the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds, marking the largest group of national qualifiers in the school's Division I history.
With five different throwers entered in multiple events, the Bison men will have 17 entries at the meet – a significant improvement over totals of seven in 2014 and 12 in 2015.
The meet will be hosted by the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan., on May 26-28.

How to Advance
The top 12 finishers in each event at the Preliminary Rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 8-11.
In the discus, shot put, javelin and hammer throw, all 48 competitors will receive a single round of three attempts. The top 12 marks overall advance to the NCAA Championships.
In the 110m hurdles, the top three finishers from each heat plus the next six fastest times (24) will advance to the quarterfinals. The top three finishers from each quarterfinal heat plus the next three fastest times (12) will advance to the NCAA Championships.
Top Throws Program
The Bison men have a nation-best 15 entries in the throwing events at the NCAA Prelims. Alabama is second-best with 10 entries in the throws. The NDSU men and women combined for 25 entries in the throwing events at the NCAA Prelims, and no other school in the country has more than 14.
Impressive Numbers
North Dakota State's 15 entries in the men's throws at the NCAA Prelims leads the country for any school in any event group – sprints/hurdles, mid-distance, distance, jumps, throws, or multi-events.
High Level
Outside of the Power 5 conferences, NDSU's 34 combined entries between men and women at the NCAA Prelims are the second-most in the country.
Triple Threats
Sophomores Payton Otterdahl and Steffan Stroh are the first Bison men to qualify for the NCAA West Prelims in three events. Both will compete in the hammer throw, discus and shot put.
Top Five
NDSU's five entries in the shot put rank No. 1 through No. 5 in school history in the event -- Renner, Berghuis, Schwarzkopf, Otterdahl and Stroh.
Still Young
Of NDSU's 10 men competing at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds, only four are seniors – Brandt Berghuis, Jerome Begin, Parker McKittrick and Quinn Baumann.
Seven Straight League Titles
The Bison men have captured seven consecutive Summit League outdoor team titles and eight in nine years since joining the league prior to the 2008 season.
