LAWRENCE, Kan. – Junior Conrad Schwarzkopf led the group of North Dakota State athletes competing in the men's hammer throw at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds on Thursday. Schwarzkopf finished 14th, missing a bid to the NCAA Championships by only two places.
North Dakota State led the country with five entries in the men's hammer throw at the NCAA Preliminary Rounds.
Schwarzkopf posted the second-best mark of his career, throwing 203-9 (62.10m) to come up 13 inches shy of the 12th and final qualifying spot. He concludes his junior season ranked No. 2 all-time at NDSU in the event.
Sophomore Steffan Stroh placed 29th in the hammer throw with a mark of 195-2 (59.48m) in his NCAA West Prelims debut. Junior Alex Renner took 36th at 191-6 (58.36m), Payton Otterdahl was 39th with 190-0 (57.93m), and Brandt Berghuis finished 43rd.
All five Bison men competing on Thursday rank among the top seven in school history in the event.
The NCAA West Preliminary Rounds will continue on Friday and Saturday for the Bison men.
