North Dakota State Men Defend Summit League Indoor Title

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team defended its Summit League indoor team title on Saturday, clinching the championship on the final event of the meet.
The Bison led South Dakota State by only half a point going into the 4x400m relay, and NDSU secured the team title with a runner-up finish as the Jackrabbits finished third. Jacob Richter, JT Butler, Byrne Curl and Landon Jochim clocked 3:13.50 to rank seventh-fastest in NDSU history. It was the fastest Bison indoor 4x400 in 12 years.
NDSU finished with 192 points, edging South Dakota State at 189.5. South Dakota was third with 123.5 points.
It was the sixth Summit League indoor title for the Bison in their 10 seasons in the Summit League. NDSU head coach Don Larson was named the league's Coach of the Year.
NDSU senior Alex Renner defended his Summit League crown in the shot put, throwing 62-05.00 (19.02m). The Bison men swept the top three places and finished 1-2-3-5-7-8 with Renner, Steffan Stroh, Payton Otterdahl, Conrad Schwarzkopf, Brian Blasey and Michael Keogan to score 31 team points.
Sophomore Ryan Enerson won his second straight Summit League title in the heptathlon, scoring a personal-best total of 5,103 points to rank fifth in NDSU history. The Bison men finished 1-2-3-5-7 in the heptathlon for 30 team points. Freshmen Ben Klimpke (4,762) and Tony Ukkelberg (4,749) scored personal-bests to place second and third.
Jochim broke the NDSU 400m school record for the third time this season on his way to a runner-up finish in the event. He finished in 47.07 and has now cut more than half a second off the previous school record. Richter was fifth in the 400m in a personal-best 47.94, and he now ranks fourth-fastest in NDSU indoor history.
NDSU also scored big in the 800m. Sophomore Byrne Curl earned a runner-up finish in 1:54.32, Brant Gilbertson finished third, and Jonah Warwick was fourth for NDSU.
Enerson (8.24) and senior Angus Stoudt (8.35) both ran personal-best times in the 60m hurdles to finish second and third, respectively.
Bison sophomore Kelle'Mon Hinton came up huge for NDSU in the triple jump, earning a runner-up finish with a personal-best mark of 47-11.00 (14.60m).
Junior Jake Leingang placed fourth in the mile and fifth in the 5,000m, giving him three top-five finishes in the meet. Camron Roehl was fifth, and Gilbertson took seventh in the mile to score key team points.
