Renner Takes 11th in Shot Put at NCAA Championships for Second All-America Honor

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – North Dakota State senior Alex Renner finished 11th in the shot put at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday, earning second-team All-America honors.
Renner (Watertown, S.D.) is NDSU's third indoor All-American at the Division I level and the first for the Bison since Andy Lillejord in 2013.
Renner opened with a throw of 60-05.25 (18.42m) on his first attempt and improved to 61-03.00 (18.67m) with his second throw. Renner reached 60-07.25 (18.47m) on his third attempt, finishing 11th with the top nine advancing to the finals.
Renner was ranked 12th in the nation entering the meet. He now owns the 26 best marks in NDSU history in the indoor shot put.
Mostafa Hassan of Colorado State won the NCAA title with a throw of 69-09.50 (21.27m), topping the rest of the field by more than four feet.
Renner also earned second-team All-America status outdoor in 2016, placing 14th in the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. With a pair of All-America finishes, Renner becomes only the second NDSU men's track & field athlete to earn multiple Division I All-America honors, joining Matti Mortimore.
