Nilles Leads Bison Women with Massive Hammer Throw Personal-Best

TEMPE, Ariz. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team placed four in the top 10 of the hammer throw at the Baldy Castillo Invitational on Friday evening.
Sophomore Maddy Nilles was NDSU's top finisher in the hammer, registering a personal-best toss of 195-7 (59.61m) to place fifth in the meet and move up to third in NDSU history. Nilles improved on her previous best mark by a remarkable 17 feet.
Bison senior Katelyn Weimerskirch took seventh place at 194-4 (59.25m).
Freshman Amy Herrington (Henley-on-Thames, England) posted an impressive NDSU debut in the hammer throw, ranking seventh in school history with a throw of 184-10 (56.35m). Bison junior Hannah Frost finished 10th at 184-0 (56.08m).
In the javelin, junior Kayla Hochhalter threw 143-8 (43.80m) to place 10th in the meet and rank seventh all-time at NDSU. Senior Laura Grube was 14th with a throw of 136-6 (41.60m).
The Baldy Castillo Invitational will conclude on Saturday.
