TEMPE, Ariz. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team wrapped up competition at Arizona State's Baldy Castillo Invitational on Saturday.
NDSU senior Katelyn Weimerskirch won the discus, throwing 174-2 (53.10m) to come within four feet of her school record in the event. That mark ranks her 10th in the NCAA one week into the outdoor season. Weimerskirch also finished eighth in the shot put on Saturday.
The Bison women placed five in the top nine of the shot put, led by redshirt freshman Bailey Retzlaff (Carrington, N.D.) who now ranks eighth all-time at NDSU after throwing 48-11.00 (14.91m) for fifth place in the meet. Sophomore Shelby Gunnells finished sixth at 47-10.00 (14.58m), and redshirt freshman Maggie Schwarzkopf took seventh with a throw of 47-08.50 (14.54m).
Schwarzkopf now ranks 11th in NDSU history in the outdoor shot put.
NDSU will return to competition at the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic on March 23-25.
