Gunnells, Hochhalter Win Events on Final Day of Stanford Invitational

FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota State women's track and field team wrapped up competition at the Stanford Invitational and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival with a pair of event titles Saturday, April 1.
One day after Alyssa Olin notched the second-best javelin mark in school history, Kayla Hochhalter matched her at Stanford with a toss of 160-8 (48.97m) to win her division of the event by 25 feet.
Shelby Gunnells won the collegiate hammer throw at Stanford with a personal-best mark of 183 feet, 7 inches (55.95m), which ranks No. 8 all-time at NDSU. The Bison finished 1-2-4-5 in the hammer throw.
Bailey Retzlaff picked up the first of two PRs with a second-place hammer throw of 177-9 (54.19) and later threw 148-3 (45.19m) in the discus for seventh place. Jordyn Thornton was fourth in the hammer with a career-best 170-10 (52.08m) and Maggie Schwarzkopf was fifth with a 170-9 (52.04m).
NDSU's Morgan Milbrath, Alexis Woods, Amy Andrushko and Rose Jackson ran the sixth-fastest 4x400-meter relay in school history with a time of 3:37.15 that was second to Stanford by one one-hundredth of a second. Jackson earlier in the day led six NDSU finishers in the 200-meter dash with a third-place time of 24.09 seconds.
At the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, Dakota Wood ran a personal-best 1:04.47 for fifth place in the 400-meter hurdles.
North Dakota State is scheduled to compete at the University of Nebraska next Saturday, April 8, before returning to California in two weeks and making their home debut April 21-22 with the Lyle Hokanson Classic.
